People become members of Amnesty International in two ways.

If you live outside U.S. you should contact Amnesty section in your country - see

(2) Those who want to be involved through personal actions become Amnesty volunteers. Most volunteers are members of school or community chapters of Amnesty International. If you live in U.S.A., you can check the web page

to find the Regional Office responsible for your state. They will be able to point you to the Amnesty chapter nearest to you. If no Amnesty chapter is close to you, you can join some of the online letter-writing network such as Urgent Action Network or Freedom Writer Network, where you get requests for letter-writing actions by electronic mail.
