The group has responded positively to work in a dedicated manner on behalf of Burmese Prisoner of Conscience Khim Maung Myint.
He is a prominent member of the National League for Democracy - the political organisation led by Aung San Suu Kyi which won the 1990 election in Burma by a massive majority but has been prevented by the military government from taking power as the population clearly wished. He appears to have been imprisoned because he was one of the organisers of a meeting at which Aung San Suu Kyi was to speak, but had two years added to the 6 year sentence for possession of a Thai lottery ticket.
Members of the group have launched into a massive letter writing campaign to question the standard of his trial, to request information about his health and the circumstances in which he is detained, and to press for his immediate and unconditional release. Meanwhile the group's casework team are providing detailed information to MPs and MEPs and asking them to use their respective channels to raise the matter with Government Departments and International Organisations.
