Mission Statement: Amnesty International is a worldwide organization that works for individuals and their basic human rights. It works specifically for the release of prisoners of conscience (men, women and children imprisoned for their beliefs, color, sex, ethnic origin, language, sexual orientation, or religion, provided they have neither used nor advocated violence), fair and prompt trials for all, and an end to torture and executions in all cases. News and Events: Group 49 sponsors its annual Write-a-thon Our annual Write-a-thon for Human Rights will be held on Sunday, December 9, from 1 to 5 pm, at the Parish House behind the First Unitarian Church on Benevolent Street, near the corner of Benefit. We will write letters on behalf of ten prisoners of conscience from countries around the world. All materials will be provided, as well as delicious refreshments. At 3 p.m, our ceremonial Candle of Hope will be lit by our guest speaker, Shanaz Bina.
