2009 Global Write-a-thon: Saturday, December 12, 5:30pm-7:30pm. Our group took part in Amnesty International's Write-a-thon. People throughout the world wrote letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience and victims of human rights abuses.
Our recent event, "How You Can Help Stop Torture", held Saturday, September 12, 2009, was a great success. Thanks to all who helped. More info and photos here.
Located in the San Francisco East Bay Area, with members from Albany to Fremont to Livermore, Amnesty International Group #612 is an active group of dedicated members from all walks of life working to promote Amnesty's goals around the world. We meet on the last Saturday of each month, usually at a cafe (see the bottom of this page). At a typical meeting, we indulge in snack fare, write letters, and plan actions related to our current campaigns, which include
Group #612 is open to working on any issue if it is within Amensty's mission and a member is willing to steer the project.
Amnesty International's vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.
In pursuit of this vision, AI's mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.

It does not support or oppose any government or political system, nor does it support or oppose the views of the victims whose rights it seeks to protect. Please join us at one of our monthly meetings. They happen on the last Saturday of the month (unless noted otherwise), and run from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. All are welcome to attend our meetings, whether or not they choose to become members of Amnesty International. Many of our members carpool to meetings.
