A prominent human rights activist who campaigned for the rights of people with HIV/AIDS has been murdered in what appears to have been a homophobic hate crime, in the central Mexican city of Queretaro. His partner and other activists for the rights of sexual minorities in the city are in danger.

Lim Taehoon was released on Friday July 1! Lim Taehoon (28), a South Korean gay rights activist was arrested on 26 February 2004 for refusing to serve mandatory military service. Lim refused conscription because of his beliefs in non-violence and peace, and on grounds that the South Korean military discriminates against gay, bisexual and transgender people. Amnesty International considered Lim to be a prisoner of conscience as he was detained for the peaceful exercise of his human rights.

This occurs in a climate where popular Jamaican singing artists commonly urge their audiences to kill gay men.
