Greater Los Angeles Development (GLAD)
GLAD helps to coordinate activities that use volunteers from throughout Southern California. For example, GLAD coordinates tabling at concerts and public events; plans public human rights events (past events include a Minority Rights Symposium, a Bosnia Forum, and a Human Rights Education forum). GLAD also sponsors leadership and speaker's trainings. GLAD serves as a clearinghouse so that groups can share information and participate in each other's events.

Mission Statement
Greater Los Angeles Area Development is a cluster within the Western Region of Amnesty International USA centering geographically on the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. For our purposes this includes the counties of Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura as well as Los Angeles.

The cluster's makeup is that of AI volunteer leaders from local community, campus and letter-writing groups. A volunteer leader is a Co-ordinator or anyone active in Amnesty who wishes to participate in the work of G.L.A.D.

The purpose of G.L.A.D. is to better facilitate the human rights work of local groups within its territory by:
  • Co-ordinating the work, ideas and planning of the various local groups by acting as a clearinghouse and network focal point.
  • Planning and co-ordinating events, campaigns and other projects which need, or could benefit from, the participation or help of members of local groups throughout the greater metropolitan area.
  • Providing to local volunteer leaders a vehicle for the exchange of experiences and ideas developed in their work.
  • Assisting the professional staff in servicing groups and planning conferences.
  • Encouraging the development and facilitating the emergence of future volunteer leadership, i.e., the Area Co-ordinators, Group Co-Ordinators and Death Penalty Co-ordinators of tomorrow.
