Welcome to Amnesty International Group 175 in Long Beach, California There is no fee to attend the meetings and new members are always welcome! The group meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 in Room 1 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Long Beach, 5450 Atherton St. (1/2 block west of Bellflower). Activities: Letter writing, prisoner-of-conscience campaign, participation in other Amnesty campaigns, event planning, and discussion of world events. Group 175 is one of many local affiliates of Amnesty International USA, which in turn is the United States national section of the worldwide Amnesty International movement. Founded in 1961, AI works impartially for the release of all prisoners of conscience, fair and prompt trials for political prisoners, and an end to torture and executions (for further information, see the brief history and description and the text of the Statute of AI).
