There are many different ways to get involved in Amnesty International and human rights work. Numerous local Community Groups and Student Groups exist in the Southern California area which are engaged in addressing a wide range of human-rights issues around the world, and which also offer a context for pursuing one’s own specific interests and concerns.

Student groups typically only meet during times when the associated school is in session. Often they meet during the day, several times a month. The student group may have a teacher or other figure that is the sponsor of the group at the school.

You should register your group at the beginning of every school year

One possibility is that you have not officially registered your student group at the beginning of the school year. You should re-register every school year to make sure you get the Urgent Actions, Core Action and other key information and resources that officially registered groups receive. It's easy to re-register - just go to www.amnestyusa.org/sglogin , enter your username and password and then click "Edit My Student Group Profile."  If you have forgotten or misplaced your password, there is an option to have it e-mailed to you.  Also, you can update your group contact information anytime throughout the year.

What if my school doesn't have a student group?

You can contact the western office and they will help you start a student group.

Why isn't my student group listed here?

One possibility is that you have not officially registered your student group at the beginning of the school year (see above). In any case, you can contact the site maintainer and ask to have your group listed here.

Please note that we are currently working with the western office and the student groups to make this list as accurate as possible.

The list of active student groups can change with every school year. If you see a school listed here as having an Amnesty International group, but cannot find the group on campus, you can contact the site maintainer or the western office and we can help you find contact information for the student group.

The current list was taken from a list of student groups given to us by the western office in February 2009. We should soon have replaced it with the list of student groups for the Fall 2009—Spring 2010 school year.
