We are the New Forest local group of Amnesty International (AI), a worldwide movement of people who campaign for human rights. Amnesty International aims to promote general awareness of human rights, and to oppose specific abuses of human rights.

Our local group aims to support Amnesty International's work by:

  • Organising meetings to discuss human rights issues and raise awareness
  • Fundraising
  • Writing letters to Prisoners of Conscience and the people responsible for their detention
  • Human rights education and work with young people
  • Working on campaigns on specific issues, organised by Amnesty International
  • Lobbying local MPs and MEPs

You can have a look at our annual report to see what we've been doing.

Our meetings are open to the public, please come and join us.

Our next meeting is our Christmas Social & card/letter writing evening, on Wednesday, December 14th, from 7:30pm at Lymington Community Centre. Cards and draft letters provided, as well as mulled wine and mince pies. We hope to see lots of you there. You really can make a difference, but don't just take our word for it - here are the words of Rebiya Kadeer – a businesswoman and activist, who was jailed for 6 years in China

“I honestly don't believe I would be alive today without the support of Amnesty International. Thanks to many thousands of letters written by Amnesty members, my detention conditions changed and I finally received the medical treatment I needed. Most importantly, the support of Amnesty gave me back my inner strength”

If you live closer to Southampton than Lymington, then you might also want to consider the Southampton City Group.
