Statement for REFORM

I am running for the Board as a REFORM candidate in a troubled time. In the past two years, the AIUSA Board and Executive Committee have too often operated in secret, yielding inconsistent decisions and bringing negative press coverage to AIUSA, including in the NY Times. Accountability and transparency should be required in a leading human rights organization. We need to REFORM the Board.

If you vote me to the Board, I will seek immediate election as AIUSA General Secretary, a key Board position. If elected, I will restore transparency and accountability to the Board through prompt and thorough reporting of Board meetings and decisions (including Executive Committee decisions, which are currently kept secret). Restoring real accountability and transparency is critical to rebuilding a Board that AIUSA members and activists can trust —-it is essential to REFORM —-and I have the in-depth knowledge of AIUSA, the experience, the computer skills, the time, and the commitment to get this job done.

I will also bring to the AIUSA Board the experience of serving on six other Boards, excellent finance/accounting skills (which are particularly useful as AIUSA is now in deficit), and expertise in North Korean human rights issues.

Please support the other REFORM candidates: Steve Abrams, Govind Acharya, Rick Halperin, Phyllis Pautrat, and Magdaleno Rose-Avila. We will each play an important role in building a Board of which AIUSA members can be proud.
